SME Cash Grant 2026: Who Gets Paid From 2 November and How to Check Your Payout

Singapore SME owner reviewing business support and SME Cash Grant 2026 information

Singapore’s SME Cash Grant 2026 starts paying out from 2 November 2026. Eligible businesses can receive up to S$2,500, and there is no application form to submit. IRAS will automatically assess eligible ACRA-registered businesses and pay the grant through PayNow Corporate or an existing GIRO arrangement.

For many SME owners, the important questions are practical: Do I qualify? How much will I get? When will the money arrive? And what should I do if nothing shows up? This guide breaks down the SME Cash Grant 2026 in plain English.

What Is the SME Cash Grant 2026?

SME Cash Grant 2026 provides cash support to eligible Singapore businesses.

The SME Cash Grant 2026 was introduced to help businesses manage higher costs, including energy-price pressures and broader cost increases linked to the Middle East situation.

The scheme is designed as a broad-based cash support measure rather than a reimbursement grant. That means eligible businesses do not need to first spend money on a project or submit invoices before receiving support.

Instead, IRAS assesses businesses automatically using existing government records. If your business meets the criteria, the grant is paid directly to the business.

The maximum payout is S$2,500 per eligible business. For businesses with local qualifying employees, the amount is generally based on employee headcount. Certain sole proprietorships and partnerships without local qualifying employees may also receive a flat S$500 grant.

This makes the SME Cash Grant quite different from project-based support such as the EDGE Grant, where support is tied to specific business improvement or transformation projects.

Who Qualifies for the SME Cash Grant 2026?

Eligibility depends on your business status, size and, for most companies, local qualifying employees.

IRAS will automatically assess ACRA-registered companies, sole proprietorships and partnerships in Singapore. No application is required.

To qualify, the business must be active and registered in Singapore at the point of disbursement. It must also meet at least one of the following size criteria:

  • Annual revenue of no more than S$100 million for YA 2025, based on information filed and assessed by IRAS as at 31 August 2026; or
  • No more than 200 employees as at 30 June 2026.

For most incorporated companies, the payout is linked to the number of local qualifying employees between April and June 2026.

A local qualifying employee generally means a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident employee. This can include shareholder-directors who are also employees of a company. Sole proprietors and partners themselves are not treated as employees for this calculation.

One important detail is that CPF contributions must have been made on time. Late CPF contributions are excluded from the grant computation.

What about businesses with no local employees?

There is a special provision for owner-operated sole proprietorships and partnerships.

If the business has no local qualifying employees, it may still receive a flat S$500 grant if it is run by at least one local business owner and the relevant owner’s net trade income for YA 2025 does not exceed S$100,000.

This flat S$500 support does not generally apply to a private limited company with zero local qualifying employees.

How Much Will Your Business Receive?

The grant is generally calculated at S$500 per local qualifying employee, capped at S$2,500.

For eligible businesses with local qualifying employees, the calculation is straightforward:

S$500 × number of local qualifying employees, up to a maximum of S$2,500.

The employee count is based on the highest number of local qualifying employees in any month from April to June 2026.

Highest local qualifying employee count Indicative grant
1 employee S$500
2 employees S$1,000
3 employees S$1,500
4 employees S$2,000
5 or more employees S$2,500 maximum

For example, suppose your company had three local qualifying employees in April, four in May and two in June. The highest monthly headcount is four, so the indicative grant would be S$2,000, assuming all other eligibility conditions are met.

If your business had six, eight or even twenty qualifying local employees, the maximum grant is still S$2,500.

Sole proprietorship and partnership example

An eligible sole proprietor with no local qualifying employees may receive the flat S$500 grant if the net trade income requirement is met. If that same sole proprietorship employed three qualifying local employees, the grant would instead be calculated based on employee headcount, giving an indicative S$1,500.

When Will the SME Cash Grant Be Paid, and How Do You Check It?

Eligible businesses with the required payment setup can receive the grant from 2 November 2026.

Eligible businesses with an existing IRAS GIRO arrangement as at 14 October 2026, or PayNow Corporate registered as at 25 October 2026, will receive the grant in their bank accounts from 2 November 2026.

The SME Cash Grant 2026 will not be paid by cheque.

If your company is using PayNow Corporate, the bank account should be linked to the company’s UEN without the suffix. Businesses using GIRO should have an Income Tax or GST GIRO arrangement with IRAS.

IRAS will also send eligible businesses a notification letter to their registered business address and make the notification available through myTax Portal in November 2026.

How to check whether your business qualifies

IRAS provides an SME Cash Grant 2026 eligibility checker. You can use your organisation’s UEN to check whether the business is eligible.

For SME owners, the easiest sequence is:

  1. Check whether your business is active and falls within the size criteria.
  2. Review your local employee headcount between April and June 2026.
  3. Make sure CPF contributions were made on time.
  4. Confirm that PayNow Corporate or the relevant GIRO arrangement is properly set up.
  5. Check myTax Portal and your business bank account from 2 November onward.

What Should You Do If the Grant Does Not Arrive?

If no payout arrives, check eligibility, payment setup and official IRAS records before escalating.

If you believe your business qualifies but no payout appears immediately on 2 November, first avoid assuming that the business has been rejected. “From 2 November” does not necessarily mean every eligible business receives funds at the same moment.

Check the basics first:

  • Is the business still active?
  • Was YA 2025 revenue information filed and assessed by the relevant cutoff date?
  • Were CPF contributions for April to June 2026 made on time?
  • Was PayNow Corporate linked correctly to the business UEN?
  • Was the GIRO arrangement already in place by the relevant cutoff date?
  • Has an IRAS notification appeared in myTax Portal?

IRAS has stated that businesses that believe they meet the eligibility criteria but did not receive the grant may submit an appeal. Details on the appeal process are expected to be published around the disbursement period.

Is the SME Cash Grant taxable?

Yes. The SME Cash Grant 2026 is taxable.

For companies, the amount should be declared in the relevant corporate income tax return. For individuals and partnerships, IRAS states that the amount will be automatically included in the relevant tax forms.

Do I need to apply?

No. Eligible ACRA-registered businesses are automatically assessed. Be cautious of anyone claiming that you must pay a fee or appoint an intermediary merely to “apply” for the SME Cash Grant.

Can the grant be paid to another person or company?

No. IRAS states that the grant can only be paid to the eligible business and cannot be redirected to a third party.

What if my business has no local bank account?

IRAS advises businesses without a local bank account to contact IRAS through myTax Mail under the relevant government payout and payment categories. Alternative arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

What This Means for Singapore SME Owners

The grant can help with near-term costs, while longer-term support can fund productivity and transformation.

The SME Cash Grant 2026 is deliberately simple: there is no project proposal, no vendor quotation and no reimbursement claim process. For eligible businesses, the key work is making sure the company’s records and payment arrangements are in order.

For a small business with five or more qualifying local employees, the maximum S$2,500 payout will not transform the business on its own. But it can help offset near-term operating costs, software subscriptions, utilities or other unavoidable expenses.

The more important takeaway is to view this grant as one part of a broader funding landscape. Cash support can help with immediate costs, while programmes such as the EDGE Grant may support longer-term digitalisation, automation and business transformation projects.
